MWOS reclaimed top spot in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after edging past Caps United 2-1. The Punters showed great character in bouncing back from conceding the opening goal in the 20th minute, with Arthur Banda’s thumping effort handing MWOS an equaliser just before halftime.
Innocent Zambezi’s header from a set piece situation in the second half gave MWOS the lead, and despite Caps United’s efforts to claw back into the game, the hosts were resolute.
Eric Manokore’s missed penalty denied Caps United the opportunity of snatching a point late on as MWOS sealed a win which thrust them back to the top of the PSL standings.
The victory took MWOS’ points tally to 34, two points clear of second-placed Simba Bhora. The Norton outfit has now gone 16 matches without defeat, and while they’re heavy favorites to challenge for the title, the question remains whether they can maintain their form into the second round of matches.
MWOS’ consistency has been impressive in their maiden PSL season, with coach Lloyd Mutasa’s side delivering first-class performances. While Mutasa has often downplayed sentiments of his side being strong championship candidates, it’s hard to doubt their ability to go all the way.
As MWOS make history in their debut season, their leadership will undoubtedly be pleased with the work done by Mutasa. Remaining consistent will be key to their success, and if they can maintain their current form, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the second half of the season.
