Marshall Munetsi etched his name into the annals of the English Premier League by scoring his first goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers in their 1-1 draw against Everton. This remarkable achievement marks the end of a 14-year wait for Zimbabwean fans, who last celebrated a goal from one of their own in the EPL during Benjani Mwaruwari’s illustrious stint in the EPL.

Munetsi’s goal sparked widespread excitement and pride, as he became the first Zimbabwean to find the back of the net in the Premier League since Benjani, a player who paved the way for many Zimbabweans in European football. Reflecting on this historic moment, Munetsi couldn’t contain his joy, stating, “It feels good, it has been coming. The last couple of games I had chances to score, but in football, you can never predict when you’ll score. The coaches and players have always had faith in me to keep pushing.”

Since his transfer from Stade Reims on deadline day, Munetsi has quickly established himself as a vital asset for Wolves. Despite being tasked with a deeper midfield role against Everton, he demonstrated his versatility and attacking instincts by surging into the box and securing the equaliser. This goal not only underscores his potential but also his ability to adapt and thrive in one of the world’s most competitive leagues.

Munetsi’s journey from Ligue 1 to the Premier League has been intriguing sparking widespread interest particularly among Zimbabweans dotted around the globe. As he continues to make his mark at Wolves, fans eagerly anticipate more memorable moments from the talented midfielder, who is soon set to represent Zimbabwe in back to back world cup qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria.
