Ngezi Platinum Stars ascended to the summit of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, thanks to a decisive header from Farai Madhanaga.
After silencing Scottland FC with a 1 nil win before the international break Ngezi Platinum Stars followed up that 5 star performance with a home win over Traingle at the Baobab Stadium on Saturday.
The first half did not produce any goals but with 20 minutes remaining, Madamburo turned on the power after Ashwin Karengesha sent in an inviting corner that was headed home by an alert and well positioned Farai Madhanaga who secured a 1 nil win for the hosts.
This win propelled Ngezi Platinum Stars to pole position on the log standings, overtaking MWOS FC, who played out a goalless draw against FC Platinum in Zvishavane. With three wins and a draw from their first four matches, Ngezi Platinum Stars boast an impressive 10 points, situating them two points clear of second-placed MWOS FC.
Following a bright start to the season, the Mhondoro-based outfit emerges as a formidable contender in the title race. Having clinched their maiden league title in 2023, they are no strangers to success, and their current form suggests they could repeat that triumph if they can remain consistent. Initially, not many pegged Madamburo as title contenders especially after the departiure of some key players, but their consistent performances have silenced the skeptics and ignited discussions about their potential to challenge for league glory.
Meanwhile, the league’s dynamics remain intriguing, with Scottland FC poised to challenge for a closer spot on the table. They face Highlanders in an upcoming encounter at Barbourfields Stadium, where a win could bring them within a point of the leaders.
