The Zimbabwe national soccer team squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers is expected to be named on Thursday. The much-anticipated squad list, will reveal the players who will represent Zimbabwe in crucial matches against Benin and Nigeria.

The Warriors are scheduled to face Benin on March 20th in Durban, before heading to Nigeria for a challenging encounter with the Super Eagles on March 25th. These fixtures are pivotal as the team seeks to advance their World Cup campaign, and head coach Michael Nees has been meticulously preparing to select the best possible squad.

Coach Nees has faced some delays in naming the team due to uncertainties surrounding the fitness of key players. Among those nursing injuries is the experienced goalkeeper Washington Arubi, who sustained an injury during Marumo Gallants’ clash against  Orlando Pirates. Arubi was absent in Marumo’s subsequent match against Stellenbosch.

Adding to the list of potential absentees is Marvelous Nakamba, who did not feature in Luton Town’s narrow win over Portsmouth FC. His participation in the qualifiers remains uncertain, adding to the suspense surrounding the squad announcement.

Despite these challenges, there is an air of optimism as fans eagerly speculate about potential inclusions. Bill Antonio, who has made a commendable recovery from a long-term injury, is expected to be in contention for a spot. Similarly, Junior Zindoga’s impressive form for Marumo Gallants has sparked discussions about a possible maiden call-up.

Local players are also in the spotlight, with the domestic premiership having recently kicked off. Observers are keen to see how many homegrown talents will be given the nod by Coach Nees with the major concern being of fitness and sharpness.
