Ngwenya strikes again as AmaZulu dismiss Siwelele

Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya continued his impressive start to the season as AmaZulu beat Siwelele 2-0 in Durban to collect maximum points.

The Zimbabwean forward played a key role in an important victory for Usuthu, scoring once and helping create the opening goal as AmaZulu maintained their strong start to the South African Premiership campaign.

Mlondi Mbanjwa opened the scoring in the 20th minute after excellent build-up play involving Ngwenya and Maqokolo.

Ngwenya then doubled AmaZulu’s advantage in the 32nd minute when he arrived at the right place to meet a pinpoint cross from Nkosikhona Radebe.

The goal continued what has been a remarkable run of form for the former FC Platinum player. Ngwenya has now scored three goals in his last three matches, having also found the net in AmaZulu’s 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates as well as in a 4-3 MTN8 defeat to Sekhukune.

His latest performance comes after a difficult week for the Zimbabwean.Ngwenya had received death threats following an accidental injury to Sihle Nduli, an incident which led to the forward issuing an apology.

Despite the off-field pressure, Ngwenya responded in the best possible way when called upon, producing a professional performance and helping AmaZulu secure all three points.

The 26-year-old’s resurgence is particularly significant after an injury disrupted his progress last season. He has returned strongly and is beginning to show the form that made him one of Zimbabwe’s promising attacking players.

His consistency in South Africa could also put him firmly in contention for a place in the Zimbabwe national team when the Warriors begin their 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign in September.

For Ngwenya, the focus will be on maintaining his fitness and form. And with three goals in three games, the former FC Platinum man is quickly becoming a player Zimbabwe will be watching closely.
